Community Board Rules

The board works only when people clearly say what they need, what they can provide, and what the limits are.

Last updated July 28, 2026

Post concrete, useful information

  • Needs may be brief, but must explain what would help, the general area, and timing.
  • Offers must state exactly what is available, where, when, capacity, cost status, and practical limits.
  • “Let me know how I can help” and similar vague offers are not usable listings.
  • Resources must identify the provider and should be checked for current availability before posting.
  • Mark a listing fulfilled or remove it when it is no longer current.

Protect privacy

  • Use a city or broad area, never an exact home address.
  • Do not publish children's information, medical details, identification numbers, insurance information, financial information, or details showing that a home is vacant or unsecured.
  • Use a public contact method you are willing to expose. Facebook or Nextdoor may reduce the need to publish a phone number or email, but those platforms have their own privacy rules.

Prohibited content and conduct

  • Scams, fraud, impersonation, misleading claims, or false urgency
  • Threats, harassment, discrimination, hate, exploitation, or sexual content
  • Rumors, casualty claims, unofficial emergency instructions, or political arguments
  • Spam, repetitive promotion, pressure sales, undisclosed paid services, or disaster price exploitation
  • Personal cash-transfer handles, personal crowdfunding, or requests to send money directly
  • Weapons, ammunition, controlled substances, illegal goods, or illegal services
  • Requests to enter unsafe, restricted, condemned, electrically hazardous, gas-filled, flooded, or unstable property
  • Uncoordinated self-deployment into restricted or damaged areas
  • Photos, documents, or links that expose sensitive personal information

Business and organization postings

  • Use the real public name of the business or organization where appropriate.
  • State whether the service is free, donated, discounted, paid, or unknown.
  • Do not imply that the Hub has verified, partnered with, recommended, or endorsed you.
  • Do not claim licensing, insurance, credentials, availability, or official status inaccurately.

Enforcement

Listings may be rejected, hidden, removed, expired, or restricted when they violate these rules or appear unsafe, misleading, stale, exploitative, or harmful. Review is exception-based and not guaranteed to be immediate. Report concerns through the report form or email info@foxvalleyrecovery.org.

Do not exploit a disaster. Do not make affected people chase basic details. Offer only what you can safely and responsibly deliver.
